Supporting Independent Living for Persons with Disabilities

Founded in 2011, Trung Tam Sống Độc Lập Hải Phong is the first organization in Hai Phong dedicated to persons with severe disabilities. We provide peer counseling, personal assistance, independent living training, and policy advocacy to help our members live with dignity and autonomy.

What We Do

Four pillars of our work to support independent living for persons with severe disabilities.

Peer Counseling

Monthly group sessions where members share experiences, build confidence, and support each other. 32+ sessions conducted with advanced counseling courses from Hanoi IL Center.

Personal Assistance (PA)

Trained assistants provide 4-6 hours daily support including mobility, personal care, and emotional support. 7 PA training programs with 70+ university student volunteers.

Independent Living Training

7 IL programs teaching public transportation use, event organization, communication skills, legal knowledge, and disability law awareness.

Policy Advocacy

Active engagement with local government to bring disability law into practice. Presentations on disability psychology at the Hai Phong Legal Support Center.

What We Have Accomplished

  • 32+ peer counseling sessions organized, including 3 advanced courses
  • 7 PA training programs with 70+ student volunteers from local universities
  • 7 independent living programs covering transportation, legal rights, and life skills
  • 3 members have married and have healthy children
  • No permanent meeting space — meetings held in borrowed homes, cafes, or rented venues
  • Limited funding for operations and member transportation
  • Members require wheelchair or assisted transport to attend activities
